The Great Yakhin Wall

During the preparation for the photo tour of participants of the XXVII International Campaign " Bashkortostan. Nature. Human. Culture-2017 "village resident Yakhya Sayfutdinova Maksuda Khatmullovna showed us one interesting landmark of the Salavatsky district of the republic: the "Great" Yakhinsky Wall. It was amazing to see the remains of the stone fence that once separated the village from the railway. According to our guide, this wall was built during the construction of the Samara-Zlatoust railway. For its construction, stones were used from cut tunnels in the mountain near the village. "Tasherte", as the Yakhin people call it, was needed in order to protect children and animals from getting on the railway tracks. Maksuda Khatmullovna said that during her childhood, in the 60s of the last century, she and her friends sat on this fence and counted the cars of passing trains. She especially remembered passing trains with soldiers, who in response to the bouquets of flowers thrown to them by children threw apples. The wall was not solid, in three places there were gates through which Yakhin residents went to the Berdyash River for water and swimming. The stone fence stretched for more than a kilometer and was up to two meters high, but over time it began to collapse. Later, due to the lack of use, local residents began to disassemble it on the foundations of houses. But even what is now left of the "Great Wall" will be interesting to see for residents and guests of the Yangan-Tau geopark.
