Crane day

From September 19 to September 24, 2018, in the framework of the All-Russian ecological action "Crane Day", Yangan-Tau geopolitical biologist Polina Gennadievna Polezhankina gave lectures and quizzes in educational institutions of the Salavatsky district of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The All-Russian action "Crane Day" is an environmental action initiated by the Working group on Cranes of Eurasia and the Union of Birds of Russia in 2002 to draw attention to the problem of the conservation of cranes and their habitats in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the states of Central Asia and the Caucasus. It is focused on mid-September, but the dates of the holiday are quite flexible and depend, first of all, on the time the cranes stay in the countries and the availability of birds for observers. In most regions, it takes place in the fall, when cranes gather on fields in pre-migration clusters, or at wintering sites.
More than 350 schoolchildren and teachers from the Salavatsky district of the Republic of Bashkortostan, while watching the presentation and the videos, could learn about the Crane Day holiday, as well as other actions and competitions of the Russian Union of Bird Conservation, meet representatives of the Crane family, meeting both in Russia and republic, learn about their differences, feeding habits, nesting and migrations. According to the results of the quiz, many of the guys in memory of the event got stickers with the logo of the All-Russian action, and the most attentive and active were able to get small presents from the geopark.
